COLOR YOUR WAY PERFECT:

PART 1:
Based on your readings from Lesson 6 and Lesson 9 (One on One), the handouts below, and any additional research needed on the web (using google or your favorite search engine) answer the following questions:

Introduction to Color in Digital Media

The Dynamics of Color: Light and Emotion

1) What is gamma, and how does it affect graphics displayed on monitors?
2) What is bit depth and how does higher bit depth affect the file size?
3) Give an example of a cultural influence of color. It may be from your own experience, from the handout, or from another source.
4) Define luminance smoothing.
5) What is camera raw? What is advantageous about raw files?

PART 2:
Complete two (your choice) of the three text tutorials from the Lesson 4 text tutorials assigned this week. Use the text's resource photographs or use your own high quality photographs.

Resize and adjust dpi so it is easy to send as an attachment in an email. Remember you may choose to work at a higher resolution (for printing purposes) and save as a psd. But for grading purposes I require a 72 dpi image, nicley optimized as a jpeg.

PART 3:
Utilizing the information in the handouts below create a color theme in one photographic image:

Color Vocabulary

The Color Wheel and Online Color Resources

Image requirements:
Work with your levels (P. 199), hue & saturation (P. 188-94), or match color and the other tools reviewed in the tutorials to correct colors and enhance the imagery. Work using use multiple layers, and blending layers with the layer opacity and layer blend modes. Pay close attention to developing an intentional color scheme. Use at least two sources of imagery.

You may choose to use cool colors (green, blue) or warm colors (red, orange, gold). You may choose to use a color palette that is analogous, or you could choose a complimentary color scheme.

Remember as you work organize your layers in layer sets and name them. Remember to save as a Photoshop file (.psd) as you work. This file type maintains the layers and uses no compression. Save a copy of this work as a jpg that you resize and adjust dpi as necessary, and email the jpg file to me.

Using the text tool name the image - give it a title, and put your name on the graphic.

Write one paragraph explaining the source of images used (at least two sources are needed) and the rational for your color scheme; what color scheme did you use? and why?

See the gallery lesson 4 for past student examples.

Remember to send your part 2 and part 3 (jpg format) as an attachment via e-mail. PLEASE Include your written answers for part 1 and 3 in the text of your email.

In the subject field of the e-mail put your last name and first initial with the number of the assignment.

Example: McIntosh J-Homework 4
Please use this format for each assignment that you email me throughout the semester.
